Turning Heads engages young women of color after school, on week-ends and during the summer, providing sewing instruction, product design and development and the financial, production and marketing aspects of operating a small business. The enterprise is called Sweet Dreams. http://www.keepturningheads.org/
Many of us know the stereotype of young women spending money on clothes. Girls Inc. says: the most important product teen girls spend their money on: clothes. What if low income girls made money sewing, designing and creating a line of products? Not clothing but quite saleable. In San Francisco young women from Turning Heads have created a sustainable business called Sweet Dreams. The Good funds would help Sweet Dreams replicate its model and involve more young women; provide training, mentorship, and materials for product development. This project is changing lives and empowering many. Girls creating their own business is an idea worth supporting and spreading!
