Serving the Homeless with Dignity

The Idea

The Crescent City Cafe serves restaurant-style breakfast meals to people who are homeless or low-income in the New Orleans community. We are entirely volunteer-run and serve one meal per month. We'd like to expand to two times per month and the $5,000 would provide the funds to do so.

The Specifics

We want people to understand that "homeless" is a circumstance--not a label. We also want to connect young adults to the issue of homelessness and inspire them to become advocates. Over the past 2.5 years, we've served more than 2,500 meals and provided volunteer opportunities for nearly 500 young professionals. To serve with dignity, we greet and seat each guest, and we provide them with menu options. We also serve on real dishes, and we've been told by guests that it was "the first time they felt like a human in a long time." We've only run the cafe once per month since starting, but we'd like to expand to two times per month and to other cities as well. Help us remove the stigma of homelessness and serve our guests with dignity!

This has really touched my heart. I'm so glad that their are still great people like Yall in the world today. Will be sending donations and telling all my friends and family about this wonderful organization.

As someone who has volunteered with this organization before, Crescent City Cafe truly is an exceptional experience. I could literally see and feel the positive impact we were all making. If you are able, please donate either funds or your time. You will be making a world of a difference in the lives of the homeless.

This service helps us remember that we are all God's beautiful creations loved unconditionally. Some may have had to travel a tough road or experience some unexpected circumstances. Our surroundings and address, social status, nationality, or economic relativity never determine our worth from our Creator. We are loved just the same, just as as we are.

I have served as a volunteer hostess for the Crescent City Cafe, and each time I do, I feel like I have a little more dignity. It is such a privilege to serve.

This is such a wonderful thing. The idea that anyone in this country is going hungry hurts and more should be done about it!

Each time I volunteer with Crescent City Cafe, I come away both humbled and totally energized. This is a true service experience...one in which you can get your hands dirty, then see and hear (and hug) those you are serving. And the dedicated leadership team makes getting involved easy and organized. Crescent City Cafe truly lives their mission: to serve the homeless with dignity and to build relationships with young adults in Nola. $5,000? They deserve $5,000,000!

Wonderful and inspiring young people inspiring and giving hope to those who desire to help themselves. Praise God! Some of the young founders were part of a family of Christ and a home that called others tp serve. We are so thankful they are leading others to serve Christ through loving actions.

Just wanted to stop in and say that I love your project. Mine was in 6th place for votes and during the voting period I never took the time to look at the other projects I was up against. I'm so glad to have shared the ranks with you and hope that all of our projects come upon the money and resources that will allow us to do our good work. Thanks so much for what you do. -From the folks at the Military Art Car Project.
