Military Art Car Project

Travis

Website

http://www.doartfoundation.org/

The Idea

By pairing artists with U.S. Marines we seek to create a mobile message that carries the stories and experiences of combat into diverse populations. We aim to eliminate artificial cultural boundaries by offering a platform for honest and open discussion about war and peace.

The Specifics

The mobile narrative created by Active Duty Service Members will be toured to Music Festivals, VA Hospitals, and Public Schools. Showcasing the creative expression of fighting men and women multiplies the opportunity for service members to make real connections with the citizens whose freedoms they fight for. The $5000 Award will allow The DoArt Foundation to retain Principal Artist Bobby Furst for his contributions, in addition to providing the much needed funds to purchase the vehicle upon which the soldiers will tell their story. The Dec. 14th Awarding is ideally timed for the commencement of this project, when access to financial resources are most crucial.

Living in this community, surrounded by the reality of over seas conflict & the effect it has on lives far and near, I witness the necessity of outreach such as this (based in compassion, innovation and spreading a positive message), I am very pleased to see the MAC Project coming together and hope for all of the best for these dedicated people who serve us. Please consider casting your vote for this awesome project that has the potential to touch innumerable people's lives.

My mother just returned from 13 months in Kandahar, Afghanistan and there is no easy way for us to discuss her time spent in combat. I think a project like this would provide a practical and creative platform for dialogue between members of the Armed Services and the Civilians whose rights they protect. Everyone has a story to tell, and when we tell those stories we can all bare the weight of life more evenly. I am honored to be involved in this project.

This project declares Peace for the ones who have served in War and Art for those who have the deepest need for self expression. Support our returning soldiers with something they can use to rebuild their lives after battle. Kudos to all involved. Much success to you all.

Travis it was really great to hear about this wonderful, healing project when we met in October. The ArtCar Caravan will want to come back to Joshua Tree and welcome this new vehicle to the world of ArtCars. Keep us posted as to your progress. We're very excited about your ideas. -Emily Duffy www.artcarfest.com (ArtCar Fest Director)

Great idea! This symbolism and meaning behind this is enough to get my vote. There is an obvious disconnect in our society for some veterans, as well as, for civilians and those who serve. Many spirits will be lifted by this team of good people!

Military Art Car will Bring the voices of those who have served our country to those being served, this idea will provide an eye-opening, heart opening healing, both for those who need their stories to be heard, and for those who have the opportunity to bear witness. Now more then ever this dialogue is needed. In this era of Tea Party and Occupy movements, Military Art Car will generate the compassion and artful communication to generate the deep sense of connection which is the essence of community.

This is a mobile project that speaks volumes about where we are going, in our hearts and healing, and in the way we shape the world. It is so important to be collaborating with and giving an expressive platform to our military veterans. Regardless of your political stance on war, these people are our people and we should be doing all that we can to support them. I am in love with the MAC potential, and the wave of inspiration it will cause!

This project is one that is going to stimulate important discussions for people in the community about the effects of war and its impact on members in society. I am excited to see how this project evolves and how the Armed Services members express themselves creatively. We all have so much to share and learn from each other. Supporting this project means that you are giving value to a sector of people who have served us with unquantifiable losses and letting them know you are here and want to know what they have to say.

Art is an expression only experienced by human beings. Whether by the maker or the observer, the appreciation is, only, human. Understanding war and peace and love and hate, is, only, human, as well. So, mix these ingredients, that seem very, uniquely, human, and maybe we will learn something that brings the elusive knowledge that fixes what's believed un-fixable. Reaches to places thought un-reachable. Illuminating darkness thought eternal. Perhaps, a new vision reveals a path to harmony with hope and honor and dignity and diligence. Perhaps, "we" will begin to find our true selves? Please support this project. Tom O'Key

How uplifting. I like this one because it doesn't have overt political overtones like many of the others. I think people are getting tired of everything in the world, including art & charity being politicized. This project tries to bring people together and foster understanding.

This is such a good idea. People have an extremely uniform idea about what happens overseas. They see the soldier as a faceless person, and not someone who although served in the Military has their own feelings on the politics, wars, and has seen and experienced things unique to his or her life. This is a very conceptual way to be able to tell their stories!
